How Far Ahead to Book Christmas Light Installation in Atlanta

How Far Ahead to Book Christmas Light Installation in Atlanta

Book Christmas light installation in Atlanta in early fall, September or early October, if you want a wide choice of install dates. The install season runs from late October to about mid-December, and the earliest dates fill first because they suit the most people: lights in place before Thanksgiving, with the whole season ahead. Booking later still works, but the calendar narrows as it goes, and the dates left tend to sit deeper into December. The lights themselves do not need to be on early. A timer is set at install and can start the display on the evening you choose.

Why the early dates go first

Most people want their lights up before the holidays really begin. That puts demand on the front of the install season, from late October through November. Those dates are the first to fill every year, and the later December dates fill after them.

There is a practical reason to prefer early dates as well. A display installed in early November is in place for the whole season. A display installed in mid-December has only a few weeks before January takedown. The work is the same either way, so an earlier date simply gets more from it.

What booking early actually secures

Booking early does not mean lights on the house in September. It secures three things:

  1. Your choice of install date. The widest selection sits at the start of booking.
  2. Time to design. A photo-based quote in September leaves room to decide on color temperature, bulb size, and which lines of the house to light, without rushing.
  3. Time for approvals. Businesses may need landlord sign-off, and homes in historic districts may want to check with the reviewing office before anything permanent. Both take time.

Installed early, lit when you want

A timer is set at install. It can be scheduled to start on whatever evening suits the household: the weekend after Thanksgiving, the first of December, the night guests arrive. The lights sit in place, tested and ready, and the house looks the same as it always does until the timer brings them on.

This separation of install day from light-up day is what makes early booking painless. An early install date in late October or early November does not mean an early display.

Choosing between two dates

If two install dates are open, take the earlier one. An earlier date leaves slack in the calendar if weather moves a route, and it means the display is tested and in place well before anyone is looking at it. It also separates the install from the busiest weeks at home, when the driveway is full and the front walk is busy with deliveries. The later date has only one advantage, which is that the decision can wait, and a timer already solves the question of when the house lights up.

What to have ready before you book

The fastest quotes start with a photo.

A photo from across the street

Stand across the street, ideally at dusk or on an overcast day, and take a photo of the full front of the house. This shows the roofline, the gables, the trees, and how the house sits on the lot. Text it with the address to (470) 380-7797.

A sense of scope

Decide roughly what you want lit:

  • The roofline only
  • Roofline and trees
  • Roofline, trees, and wreaths and garland at the door and windows
  • A storefront or restaurant facade and patio

Our residential design and installation service covers the full house. A simple warm-white roofline is a clean starting point. Trees and landscape and wreaths, garland, and greenery add depth.

A color preference

Warm white, cool white, or multicolor. If you are unsure, a photo is enough for us to recommend one. Our note on warm white vs cool white on brick covers the most common question.

What affects the quote

There is no published price list. Every quote is written and itemized, and it is built from the house itself:

  • Footage. How many feet of roofline, and which lines are lit.
  • Height and pitch. Taller and steeper roofs take more time and care.
  • Trees. How many, how tall, and how densely wrapped.
  • Density. A single line along the gutter versus the gutter, the gables, and the ridge.
  • Specialty pieces. Wreaths, garland, dormers, columns, and anything that is not a straight run.

A clear photo and the address are usually enough to start the quote.

Timing by type of property

Older houses and historic districts

Homes in Inman Park, Druid Hills, and Ansley Park often have complex rooflines that reward a little more design time. Our post on lighting a historic district home covers the general picture of temporary and permanent changes. Booking early leaves room for the design conversation and for any questions to the reviewing office.

Storefronts and restaurants

Businesses want lights up before the holiday shopping and party season, which puts their preferred dates at the front of the calendar. Add time for landlord approval, and early fall is the right time to start. See storefront holiday lighting and our storefronts and restaurants service.

Larger homes and estates

Big lots with long rooflines and many trees, common in parts of Buckhead and Sandy Springs, take longer to install. That makes an early date more valuable, since longer jobs are harder to fit into the busy weeks.

Permanent roofline lighting

Permanent roofline lighting is a different kind of project, a mounted system that stays on the house all year. It does not have to follow the seasonal install calendar in the same way, but it does need planning, and in a historic district it is worth clearing with the reviewing office before any work is scheduled. Text a photo to start the conversation.

During the season

If a section goes dark, text a photo of it to (470) 380-7797. It goes on the next service route.

In January

The lights come down in January. They are coiled, labeled, and kept until next season through our takedown and storage service. Next year then starts with a text.

If you are reading this in November

It may not be too late. The calendar is narrower by then, and any dates still open will sit later in the season, so the only way to know is to ask. Text a photo and the address to (470) 380-7797, or use the contact form, and we will reply with a free written quote and the dates still open.

Getting started

Our installers have worked Atlanta rooflines since 2018. The first step is always the same: a photo of the house from across the street, plus the address, texted to (470) 380-7797 or sent through the contact form.
